Our Story
Fifty-three acres in Sunshine.
We were raised in Sunshine, Louisiana, on fifty-three acres our mother bought
before we were born. Before we knew our letters, we knew how to feed a
calf, pull a carrot, pluck a hen, and tell good soil from spent.
Our mother, Carol, can make anything with her hands. Sourdough
from a starter older than we are. Kombucha. Stock. Soap. She sewed the
dresses we wore to church and pieced the quilts we still sleep under.
She keeps a garden by the almanac and a pot of something simmering
from sunup to sundown — a minimum of seven at the table, usually more.
For most of our lives, this was just how we lived. Quiet, unfashionable,
the old way. Then the world started turning back around — organic,
anti-plastic, whole, slow, real — and we realized Mama had been ahead
of it all along.
Everything Mama taught us,
the world has finally caught up to.
